VALE OF BRISLINGTON LODGE PROFILE
The Vale of Brislington was formed by Bristol Masons, on their Summer recess, riding out on their Pony and Traps to meet up in a country village near Bristol and enjoy a social gathering to keep in touch, which happened to be The White Hart Inn, Brislington Village. The consecration took place on Tuesday 15 March 1870.
In those early years the ‘Vale’ was a vacation Lodge only meeting on the third Friday in May, June, July and August . After many changes in meeting dates it eventually moved to the Fourth Friday in 1895.
The first, or as in now known, the ’Primus’ Master was Dr. Samuel Bryant a Past Master of the Beaufort Lodge No. 103 in the Province of Bristol. The Senior and Junior wardens were also from that same Lodge and practiced the Bristol Ritual. As the then Provincial Grand Master of Somerset was a supporter of the formation there was no objection to the Lodge adopting the Bristol Ritual.
In 1953 we moved to the Masonic Hall in Keynsham to be able to meet alongside our daughter Lodge, St. Keyna and changed our meetings to 10 per year from the original 4 at the White Hart Hotel.
The Vale of Brislington is now the only Lodge that performs the Bristol Ritual and because of that attracts a goodly number of visitors to witness ‘something different’.
The ritual is well rehearsed and delivered by Past Masters and Master Masons which is then followed by very enjoyable after proceedings where attendees can enjoy good food, good wine and excellent company.
Social Events
Our Installation takes place in May of each year where we install a new Master and Officers for the year ahead. Prior to that, in March, we hold a Ladies/Partners evening/Weekend to celebrate the year just gone and a big thank you our wives and partners for allowing us out to attend our meetings and rehearsals. This is a chance to dress up and meet in a more relaxed and social environment. The socials also provide an excellent opportunity to include friends and partners, whether they be Masons or not, in our activities.
Annually we hold the following;
Ladies evening/weekend, sometimes locally or a trip to the seaside where we have a gala dinner, dancing and a raffle.
Burns night at our January meeting.
Join in with The Keynsham Masonic Hall events that include a Race Night, New Years Eve party and a Summer BBQ.
Charity Giving
The Lodge holds several events throughout the year and regularly donate sums of money to local charities. These have included, the Keynsham Cricket Club and the St. Lukes Scout Group in Brislington.

A candidate for joining must be of good character and either know someone in the Lodge or apply direct which will require an interview. We meet on a Friday evening, 10 times per year excluding August and December, at 1830.

The Lodge was consecrated on June 24th 1938 at Freemasons Hall, Great Queen Street, London. The Lodge prospered until the late 90s and in 2001 it was decided to move the Lodge to Keynsham where there were a number of Brethren who were keen to start a Saturday daytime Lodge. Lodge Uno Corde was officially welcomed into Somerset on March 1st 2003

Consecrated in 1949, Priory Lodge was almost named Buckingham Lodge and was originally to have been a “Bristol Working” Lodge, however the Provincial Grand Master at the time decided that there would be no more Bristol Working Lodges in the Province of Somerset, so the Founders adopted the Emulation Ritual.

Whitchurch Lodge was consecrated on 13th March, 1950 at Frome Masonic Hall Lodge Meetings were originally held at the Zion Congregational Church School Rooms in Whitchurch from which the Lodge takes its name. Initially, all prospective Candidates had to reside within the Boundaries of the Village but this Rule was rescinded in 1954. The Lodge moved to its present location at Keynsham in September 1952. The Lodge Banner depicts the 12th Century Norman Church of St Nicholas which is situated in the centre of the Old Whitchurch Village.

The Lodge takes its name from the Blessed Gerard, Founder of the first Hospice of St. John in Jerusalem from which the Hospitaller Order of St John began. The Lodge banner incorporates the eight pointed cross of Amalfi, a pilgrim’s stave and a motto, “Summo Ducente Deo” which means “Under the Guidance or Leadership of God”. Warranted in 1981 the Lodge’s first Initiate happened to be the Past Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro CA Stuart Hadler.

The Lodge meets at 15:30 on the third Saturday in January, May (Installation), June, July & September. (usually at 15.30 but peripatetic in June, July & September under dispensation).

Columbanus Lodge is a Masonic lodge in the South West of England for Freemasons with a passion for motorcycles. St Columbanus is the patron saint of motorcyclists; hence the name. W Bro Roger Penny was the ‘primus’ (first) Worshipful Master when the lodge was formed in May 2017.

JUBILEE CHAPTER ROSE CROIX
Chapter History
Proposals to form this Chapter were made early in 1977 and the Jubilee Rose Croix Chapter No. 838 was duly Consecrated on Tuesday 14th March 1978 at Keynsham Masonic Hall where there were 27 Founder Members and 8 Visiting reigning Sovereigns from other Chapters in this District as well as 3 members of the then Supreme Council in attendance.
The name Jubilee was chosen as the nation celebrated the silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, and as jubilee is an important Festival in the Mosaic Law.
Since its conception our Chapter has always had a close relationship with our sister Chapter Keynsham Rose Croix Chapter No. 678 who are 8 years older than us. Up to 2010 they also met at Keynsham Masonic Hall but now meet at Saltford Golf Club.
We are very fortunate to have had two generous bequests in recent times. One from Ill Bro. Raymond W Ling 32⁰and another from E&P Brother Anthony J Allan 18⁰ both Keynsham Masons. Ray’s money helped towards the purchase of a new carpet for the Temple and the re-silvering of the goblets and Tony’s has enabled us to purchase many items to refurbish Jubilee, including a magnificent Altar, hand crafted by W Bro David Lyons a Frome Mason. He copied the design of a previous model which had been made by Ill Bro Mike Greaves 30⁰, which enabled us to perform the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Points all in the same room.
Jubilee has had many distinguished members who have held high rank in other Orders, including currently Ill Bro C A Stuart Hadler 30⁰, Past PGM for Somerset and Ill Bro Alan L Thompson 31⁰, Past Dep. D G M of Somerset and Wiltshire (RSM) and Past 3rd Provincial Grand Principal (Somerset).
Although we are small in number, around 20 members, Jubilee are a very happy and welcoming Chapter with Christian principles.
Lodge Meeting
We meet three times a year at Keynsham Masonic Hall on the 3rd Friday in February (Enthronement), May and September at 1815. A warm welcome awaits our visitors.
